Research areas

My current work is concerned with the development of tools for the implementation of visual languages. To generate graphical structure editors from high-level specification we build DEViL (Development Environment for Visual Languages - successor of VL-Eli). As part of my PhD thesis I extended DEViL with simulation and animation support as execution semantics for visual languages. Hence the cognitive distance between program depiction and program execution can be narrowed. Some visual languages with simulation and animation support can be downloaded on the website of the DEViL system. At this time we develop DEViL3D which is an integrated development environment for 3dimensional languages.

I am also a big fan of MVC frameworks to develop web applications. In former years I worked with Apache Struts. My current favourite is the Play! framework which bases on the fantastic Scala language. To generate webapplications from high-level specifications we developed PaderWAVE which was specified with the use of DEViL. PaderWAVE's output is PHP, PaderWAVE II can even build complex Java Server Faces applications.
