The group Software Engineering at the University of Paderborn, led by Prof. Dr. Wilhelm Schäfer, was selected this year for the $18.000 IBM Real-time Innovation Award. The Real-Time Award is the second IBM Innovation Award (first time in 2004) for the Software Engineering department.

The award was handed over on April 17th 2009 by Erwin Jung, head of IBM Scientific Cooperation, during Professor Schäfer's software engineering workshop, a course at the university that is always in great demand with students.

The IBM Real-Time Innovations-Awards are awarded to excellent scientific research projects that are based on the application of Real-Time technology in research and teaching. Many distinguished universities take part in this world-renowned contest. This year there were 200 competitors in total, of which 11 departments were selected. The awarded sum will be used to further develop and apply the current methods and tools for modeling mechatronic systems (www.fujaba.de).
